I would actually give them 10 stars if I had the choice. My husband took me there for Valentines Day dinner. I had never been there before but Brunos is on my husbands route for work so he delivers there frequently... We had Filet, Lobster tail, ravioli, antipasto and a wonderful dessert that I had to give to my husband because I had NO room. :( I actually grew up with italian step family, me not being, after so many years I was never as excited about pasta as everyone else you could say after awhile I became burnt out, although it was very good. However, coming to Brunos made it exciting and fresh again. Everything we had was absolutely done to perfection and the atmosphere made you feel at home! Thank you Cal, your wife, and staff for making my Valentines Day so special!

Stumbled across this great little gem on way back home from Ft Myers Beach...great service, great food, great prices, and in speaking w/ Bruno we found out that it just opened 8 weeks ago. My fiancé, who is 100% Sicilian, complimented the waitress and cook explaining it was the best arancini (spelling?) she ever had....even in her parents home town of Mellilli Sicily!!! A must do when in the area and a sure repeat visit if your a local. Thank you!

It's been hard finding a good Italian place in southwest Florida but I finally found one. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly. This place is very tiny so I recommend you make reservations . They make their own pasta and you can tell the gravy is not from a can. The food is also cooked in front of you so you can see the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Oh my - WOW! The aranchini and lentil soup appetizers were really good. All the entrees were HUGE, and incredibly tasty. We were so full we didn't have dessert, although everything on the dessert menu looked spectacular!

Be forewarned. Bruno's is exceptional. You are going to leave this place planning your next visit. The atmosphere is quaint, welcoming and typical to an NYC eatery. When you're in the eatery, you do not feel like you are in Fort Myers. The potential for success is obvious and I'm going to go out on a limb to say that because the space is limited, soon you will need a reservation to avoid a long wait. The owners can be found in the weeds- behind the counter, cooking up entrees as well as working the front serving the diners. It is a labor of love- you can tell as you observe the preparation. Their staff is fully on board. Helpful, enthusiastic and attentive. Our group enjoyed the special of the night- scampi with beautiful shrimp, as well as regular menu items like a flavorful eggplant parm, sausage and peppers, garlic bread and antipasti. All were delicious and generously portioned. We finished up the night with the award winning limoncello cake- I wish now that I didn't know how delicious it is. So.good. I highly recommend the experience. Maybe for lunch or brunch some Saturday. Bravo, Bruno's- the authentic, unique and intimate taste of Brooklyn is exactly what downtown Fort Myers needed.

I really give this 2.5 stars. I wanted to love it. The owner behind the counter is personable and I loved the dumpy atmosphere. I ordered their specialty, according to the menu, meatballs with penne and their marinara. The meatballs were really not very good at all. No flavor although it looked as though they were seasoned with at least parsley. No taste of garlic or onion. They were so overcooked that there was no real meat flavor either. No flavor of romano or any other cheese although it looked as though it had cheese baked on top and I was charged extra for Parmesan. (No parmigiana at this place) Penne were parboiled, which I realize a small place must do but were basically mush. The sauce seemed to be San Marzano crushed tomatoes dumped from a can and heated. The blandest possible sauce. Third rate glass of wine to go with this. Very modest lunch with tip $24. Back to Il Pomodoro for me.

I lived in Chicago and travel often to NYC for work. My family and I recently moved to Ft Myers, and after looking for a good, unique, quant restaurant that serves fantastic food like what we found in major cities...we finally did with Bruno's of Brooklyn. I was hesitant to go, thought it may be cliche...but it is anything but. Environment is actually urban! Customer service was a delight. The meatballs were handmade. Delicious! And bread was brought in from NYC. For $9.00 I had the best sandwhich I have found in all of SWFL. Will be back weekly.

Cal and Genevieve have brought the taste of Italy from Brooklyn to Fort Myers... GREAT service, GREAT food....I had made a reservation and requested to have a SPECIAL dish made for my birthday and voila' it was done to perfection...I loved the small, intimate ambiance...Im not one for big, loud restaurants so this was PERFECT! Cal and Genevieve are so personable and had some great conversation with them about good ole NY...brought back some fun memories! Thank you again Cal and Genevieve for making my birthday dinner that much more special, look forward to seeing you soon! Diane & Danny

Small place , great food. We had the bruscheta trio and it was great. The service was pretty good too; the place is a bit smaller than I expected. It is the size of a NY pizzeria, which I guess goes with the theme.

We were taken here by friends who are locals. Place was amazing. From the specials to the great reasonable wine to the fresh pasta all was stellar. Homemade brazzole was special of day. Veal picatta and shrimp franchase were great. Will be back soon

Visited this place while passing though Fort Myers and had the best time! The place is small and run by the owners themselves, which provided a very personal and unique experience. The food was also very delicious. We had the seafood salad, which was the special that day, and the veal. Both dishes were flavorful, refreshing, and went above and beyond my expectations. The owners themselves were wonderful, friendly people, which really enhanced the experience. I would definitely recommend going and would definitely visit again if I'm ever in town!

I went to College in Philly. Lived in Chicago. Kid in Connecticut. have eaten lots of Italian food. Trust me - this is darn Good Italian food. Meatball parm was outstanding. Haven't had better calamari. limoncello cake over the top. Get the point? Small place with friendly owners and staff. I will be back!

Went here for dinner with friends on a Wednesday. Fairly large group. Place is noisy (not conducive to conversations) and the food, although good was, to my mind, way overpriced. $17.00 for plain Fettuccini Alfredo is a bit much. The seafood prices were way out of line (and I love seafood). The cheapest seafood on the menu was $30.00. My husband ordered ravioli, which he said was good, but not terribly outstanding (not worth what we paid for it). Staff was friendly and service was good. Just when you're on a budget, prices that they charge are somewhat out of line. This is Fort Myers, not New York.

I went to lunch today with my co-worker / management partner of the company I work for...it was to DIE for. As a patron in the industry, I promise you, you will not be disappointed. The owner, Bruno, cooks himself & his lovely wife serves /hosts. When they call the place Bruno's Of Brooklyn, you better believe it's FULL Brooklyn, from food to accents. It was a great atmosphere! Personally, I ordered the eggplant parmigiana with penne pasta on the side. It's the best I've had, EVER. Larry Lare, executive chef of 25 years, highly endorses Bruno's of Brooklyn for authentic Italian cuisine. This restaurant is five star rating for its attentive service, dedication, world class family recipes, and unbelievable taste and presentation! We will be back!

I really wanted to be impressed. Really I did, but I wasn't. This place is a tiny restaurant right by the courthouse, so it is clearly targeted at a lunch, takeout crowd. I got the meatball sub, because what could be a better way to try a new Italian lunch takeout place? One (small) meatball sub and a bottle of water = $12. About twice what it is at Subway, and at Subway at least the sub fills you up. They use quality ingredients, and it felt like there was a whole clove of garlic in my two meatballs (yup, two). But the bread was dry, the meatballs just weren't impressive, and the price tag was a shocker. I bet they could do a great dinner or catering, but as a lunch spot, I won't be a repeat customer.

This place is a hidden little gem. I feel like I was eating my Grandmothers sauce. Very authentic....you can taste the pride that the owners out in the food. I had the chicken francese, terrific flavor and sauce. Unique and traditional dishes. It's small yet quaint. Give it a try!

First of all the owners and staff couldn't be more attentive. This is a small, small restaurant. The food is about average and the prices are right. A great many menu items are pre cooked and on display in a steam table case and reheated which I realize a lot of restaurants do. The food is a little under seasoned which makes the sauces okay. Pasta was a little undercooked. The Arancini appetizer was huge, but again was under seasoned. It was reheated in a microwave and the very tiny amount of pork in the middle was cold. I think this might be a good place for lunch as their menu advertises heroes. This is not a five star dinner restaurant so I was a little puzzled at the five star reviews. I hope they make it because they seem to be very nice people. There are much better Italian restaurants in Fort Myers.

5.0 star rating4/19/2015 Edit " Would love to keep this little gem to myself, but too good not to share. Originally from L.I., NY, that said I have had the best NY has to offer. Bruno's is now added to my favorites. Was there for dinner on a Sat. night. Actual authentic Italian like grandma made; I know, being Italian. Everything is cooked to order as is feasibly possible. Prepared in front of you, no secrets, down to chopping the parsly. Owners are concerned for patron's satisfaction, warm, friendly and welcoming making time to stop at tables even though busy. For Grandma's Sunday dinners any night of the week you must give Bruno's a try while they are a well kept secret. I indeed to eat my way through their menu, especially the imported and homemade desserts.

We ate here tonight for the first time after reading good things about it from other Yelp members. Our homemade meatballs as an appetizer were wonderful but the handmade paparedello pasta was to die for. My husband had spicy sausage and broccoli with his and I had chicken in a lemon butter sauce and both were splendid. We had the lemoncello cake for dessert which was superb. Both Cal and Jenn were amazingly friendly and treated us like family. We would and will go back in a heart beat. Best "true" Italian food we have food in SW Florida so far and it only took us 8 years.

Okay, so I travel quite a bit for work, and I call Ft Mayberry home. I was blown away tonight! It's a a very unassuming little restaurant hidden in Downtown. They have been open 10 months and boy can they make a good Red Gravy. They have specials every night, that start with fresh made pastas. If you want a break from the chainy norm, go get some fresh inventive food at Bruno's of Brooklyn. I felt as if I had stepped on the subway and was back in the Big Apple!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
